Can Someone Drive My Car Home for Me in Singapore?

Yes. In Singapore this is called a drive-home valet or a designated driver service — 代驾 (dai jia) in Chinese. You message a valet company, a licensed driver comes to wherever you are, and drives you home in your own car while you ride as the passenger. Your car ends the night in your own car park, and nobody drove after drinking.

It's a common service here. Several companies run it every night, mostly booked by WhatsApp or phone, and it is completely legal.

How it works

1. You book. Tell the company where you are, where you're going, and what car you drive (manual or auto). 2. A licensed driver comes to you. At 98 Valet, a second driver follows on a separate vehicle, so your driver can leave once you're home — nothing for you to arrange. 3. You're driven home in your own car. You sit as a passenger. The driver parks at your home and hands back your keys. 4. You pay. At 98 Valet that's cash or PayNow at your door — never in advance.

The step-by-step version, including the key handover, is on our how it works page.

What it costs

Most Singapore companies charge one flat price per trip. 98 Valet prices by distance instead, so you only pay for your own trip: from $33 for a pickup near town on Sunday to Thursday nights (any pickup time from 9pm), and on weekend nights (Friday, Saturday and public-holiday eves) from $33 before 11:30pm, then from $38 from 11:30pm through to 5am. A longer trip home costs more, and you get one all-in price before you book.

To see how that compares, our drive-home valet price comparison lists the published prices of the main Singapore services side by side, each linked to the company's own website. Our full price list is on the pricing page.

Is it legal?

Yes. A licensed driver drives your car with your permission while you ride as a passenger. You are never the one driving after drinking, which is the whole point. What about my car insurance?

Most comprehensive motor policies in Singapore cover any licensed driver driving with your permission. Some policies are named-drivers-only, third-party-only, or carry an unnamed-driver excess — check your policy wording, and if yours is restricted, tell the company before the trip.

What to check before you book

Whichever company you use, ask these before you agree:

  • The all-in price for your trip — not just the starting price. Ask about extra stops and Sentosa.
  • Waiting — how long the driver waits for free, and what it costs after that.
  • Cancellation — whether there's a fee once a driver is on the way.
  • Manual cars — not every driver drives manual. Say so when you book.
  • Payment — cash, PayNow, or card, and whether you pay before or after the trip.

Is it worth it compared with Grab?

A Grab or taxi gets you home, but your car stays behind. You pay overnight parking, then make a second trip the next day to collect it. A drive-home valet is one trip: you and your car arrive home together. We did the sums in valet vs Grab vs overnight parking.
